Work Party, Day 2

Well, Phil, Gunther, Mark (I think) and I were able to get the pilings mounted for the floating docks this morning. I came thinking it was going to be a painting day; by the second half of the day it was. Phil and I were able to get the entire North side of the club painted, trim not withstanding. got some good pics. Work Parties Start Today

Well, the work parties started today. I'm on for today and tomorrow. I think we got quite a bit done today. We were able to get all the mooring chain out without any of it getting tangled; then Wayne and a bunch of guys got most of the mooring work done. I helped out Drew and Dave Adams with scraping with East side of the clubhouse and getting that primed. Phil and Elizabeth were also helping out with that.

Off to a good start for the season. After all the rain we got last week, it was great to get out on a nice sunny and warm (70 ish) day today. Let the boating begin!!

Also, Quite a few good pics from today's work.

Splicing Party

The Sailing Season Begins! Yesterday, April 1st, was the splicing party. We had a good turn out and in a couple of short hours had all of the eyes and loops spliced into the mooring lines. As usual, Dick Z did a superb job teaching us all how it's done. I'm sorry that I forgot my camera, otherwise I would have posted a picture here for you all to see.

Because the splicing was done so quickly, Cindy P was able to start the Cruising Meeting a bit early, just a bit after 3:00. We used last year's cruising schedule as a template, and some people thought that a Port Jefferson cruise might be a nice substitute for the Black Rock cruise. No decision was made.

Gladwyn and I took a few minutes to look over the floating docks that need to be repaired in the next few weeks, and also discussed how we might build a ramp for some of the dinghy sailors.

Earlier in the day, I got out on a friends Pearson Ensign. He needed it brought around to his dock from a yard in Guilford. We were out for about an hour in light air under motor, but heck, at least we got out there!

Welcome!

I've decided to set up this site as an online log of the sailing season. The season actually begins this weekend! with the "Splicing Party" on Sunday. This is where club members get together to splice new lines for the moorings. Happy sailing!
